‘Til Death

psychicThe staff at Salem, Massachusetts’s local station, WICH-TV, is looking forward to the wedding of their program director, psychic Lee Barrett. But when Lee heads off on her Maine honeymoon, and unsolved mysteries she’ll be haunted by the ghosts of her own past.

Lee and Detective Sergeant Pete Mondello are finally tying the knot, and Lee is tying up loose ends before the big day. It’ll be an adjustment moving out of Aunt Ibby’s house, but the couple will stay nearby; after all, they have to share custody of O’Ryan, their clairvoyant cat. And Aunt Ibby will be renting out Lee’s old apartment, though she’s getting some bad vibes from her current prospective tenant.

After the celebration, complete with a cake made by the station magician, there should be time to relax, but the Maine island happens to be near the site of the crash that long ago killed Lee’s parents, a mystery she’s never been able to solve. Soon she’ll be putting wedding gifts aside and turning to her psychic gifts instead to wrap up crimes both past and present.

The Review

I can’t believe that ‘Til Death is the 12th book in this series! It seems like just yesterday I was reading book one. Reluctant psychic Lee has been a reporter, a teacher, and now a program director. Fans have been waiting a long time for her and Pete to tie the knot and for the unsolved death of her parents to become a focal point of one of the books in the series. And now… we have both in the same book! What a delight.

Lee and Pete tie the know in WICH -TV fashion and set out on their honeymoon to visit Lee’s distant relatives and to see the site where her parents died. Not all unsolved issues can be solved, but Lee is determined to find peace by visiting the site of the crash. It doesn’t take a psychic to figure out that things aren’t right on the little island where her parents died or with her aunt and uncle. At long last, Lee finds the truth about her parents’ death, and it isn’t what they thought it was or what they were told. Were her parents murdered? Once Lee realizes that things are not right, she and Pete set out to unravel the unsolved mystery and put things right once and for all.

Murder, unsolved mysteries, treasure hunters, psychic visions, and stories of pirates thrust Lee and Pete into a world of secrets, lies, and greed. Most of the cast are suspects of one crime or another, but readers won’t be sure what the suspects are guilty of until the end. Evidence, such as gold coins and jewelry, leads readers on a wild ride across time and distance and changes everything they thought they knew about Lee and her family.

Being psychic doesn’t always help when looking for a killer, and for the first time, Lee’s abilities don’t play as big a part in the investigation as readers are used to. Neither does the regular cast of characters, and this is the only reason I didn’t give ‘Til Death five stars. I missed Aunt Ibby and O’Ryan, they add fun and intelligence to the series, and a book where they play little part makes for a small amount of disappointment. They are there, just not as prominent as I would have liked. I enjoyed the unsolved mysteries involved in the story, and the fact that Lee didn’t get too upset over her psychic visions was a bonus. Psychic ability and unsolved mysteries help catch a killer with Lee finding peace with the past. This is a reader fans do not want to miss!

The Author

unsolvedCarol J. Perry was born in Salem on Halloween Eve. Memories of growing up in Salem–fortified by annual visits there, provide the locale for her Witch City Mystery series, replete with history, Halloween happenings, a most mysterious cat, and of course, murders. Carol knew as a child that she wanted to be a writer. A voracious reader whose list for Santa consisted mainly of book titles, she never lost sight of that goal.

Carol has always been an avid reader of mysteries. Carol and her husband Dan now live in Florida, offering the warmer, different, but every bit as fascinating background for her new Haunted Haven Mystery series featuring an attractive small-town setting, far away from the theme parks but virtually teeming with ghosts, a friendly golden retriever and, you guessed it, more murders.

New readers will want to catch up on the “A Witch City Mystery” series, starting with book one, Caught Dead Handed, or they may want to give another one of Carol’s series ago, such as the “A Haunted Haven Mystery” series book one, Be My Ghost.
