A Flicker of a Doubt

fairyWith a theater foundation tea and an art show planned at Violet Vickers’s estate, Courtney is hired to create charming fairy gardens for the event. It’s not so charming, however, when her best friend Meaghan’s ex-boyfriend turns out to be Violet’s latest artistic protégé. Even worse, not long after Meaghan locks horns with him, his body is found in her yard, bludgeoned with an objet d’murder.

There’s a gallery of suspects, from an unstable former flame to an arts and crafts teacher with a sketchy past. But when the cops focus on Meaghan’s business partner, who’s like a protective older brother to her, and discover he also has a secret financial motive, Courtney decides to draw her own conclusions. Fearing they’re missing the forest for the trees, and with some help from Fiona, the sleuthing fairy, she hopes to make them see the light.

The Review
Courtney and her fairy companion, Fiona, are some of the most compelling characters in a cozy mystery. Add the fairy gardens that Courtney creates for her clients and supporting characters that could be mains all on their own, and you have a cozy book and series that readers of all types, ages, and preferences can get behind. A Flicker of a Doubt will have readers cheering on the sidelines.

When Violet hires Courtney to build fairy gardens for her upcoming tea and art show, they never expected murder to be the main attraction. When one of the artists is found murdered in Meagan’s backyard and the police zero in on her business partner, Courtney sets out o prove that the victim was killed by someone else. But suspects are hard to nail down, as the victim had several people in his life that might have been happy to bash his head in. The evidence leads Courtney down a garden path of misdirection and lands her in the killer’s sight.

The “Fairy Garden Mystery” series is a fan favorite with readers who enjoy paranormal-style books., and those who aren’t into the genre. In this case, Courtney is put into a spot that has her working harder than ever. Dealing with a killer is one thing, but dealing with her father, who doesn’t believe in her fairy, almost sends her over the edge. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout this story and enough mystery to keep readers guessing until the end. Of course, Fiona progresses with her fairy training, and Courtney continues to create her gardens, but there is something in this book that has the feel of a change coming to the characters and the series, and although change can be hard, sometimes, it also gives us more enjoyment than we thought possible.
