Make A Witch

Bay and Landon are at it again. They are looking forward to a nice quiet pajama weekend. As usual, things do not go according to plan. The town’s new wishing well is being unveiled, dedicated by none other than Aunt Tillie’s arch-nemesis, Mrs. Little. Everything would have been fine if Tillie hadn’t cursed the well and made everyone’s wishes come true then it all went very wrong.

Weird things begin to occur in Hemlock Cove. The residents are making wishes, and they are coming true, including Mrs. Little being the most popular person in town, a kid who can fly and one that all the girls in town are chasing after, and many other strange things.

It takes the death and resurrection of a dead man to bring everyone together to combat the cursed well, Aunt Tillie, and to get things back to normal in Hemlock Cove, or as close to normal as it ever gets.

Ms. Lee has crafted another Winchester witch story that is very interesting and enjoyable. The characters are well written, and their personalities shine through. There is never any need to question who everyone is and what role they play in the family dynamic.

Aunt Tillie reminds the reader of that crazy aunt or cousin in their family that always brings out the drama and makes everyone nuts while also making them laugh. She knows she is the most powerful witch, and what she is doing is whacky but still goes forth with her schemes and mischief, but this time her scheming backfires and gets her into hot water with everyone in the family.

Unlike most of “A Wicked Witches of the Midwest” series, there is no real deaths and no ghost to haunt Bay, and this makes this story a bit different from most. The writing gets better with each story in the series, and the characters get more real and believable. More of Thistle and Clove would have added more comic relief to this story as well as more Sam and Marcus. However, overall, the story flowed nicely and was a fast-paced read.

If the reader has not read any of this series, it would be suggested for them to go back and at least read the first few books. Previous books will give them a good idea of who the witches are, what their issues are when it comes to the family, and the other characters that are not a cousin, mother, or aunt.
